Starting from the 24/27 trailhead, we hiked east-northeast on Dutchman's Creek Trail until it intersects with the Uwharrie Trail. We then turned west-southwest (i.e., we did not hike the northern loop) onto the Uwharrie Trail that lead us back to the trailhead where we started.
The overall hike is approximately 11.5 miles and involves several good hill climbs. This is an easy to moderate difficult hike, however, you should be in reasonable good conditioning before attempting. We anticipated 21 min/mile pace for a hiking time of 4 hours (actual time was closer to 5 hours). Travel time is 1:15 one way. We did stop for breakfast (McDonald's) and lunch (Cook Out) on the return, adding 1 hr 30 min (4 hrs total travel time).
